The Night
Lauren and Jared checked into Shangri-La that morning to a day built like a holiday: an Yves Saint Laurent appointment, a Rolls Royce at 6:00 pm, then the Eiffel Tower and dinner at Le Jules Verne. At 6:15, the car turned back. Jared said he’d forgotten the tickets and was taken to La Suite Shangri-La, while Lauren waited for a hostess to bring her a note and one red rose: follow the rose.
She entered to candlelight leading her to the terrace, where Jared stood among red flowers with the Eiffel Tower behind him and their lucky number, 5, in rose petals. He proposed at 6:35 pm. She said yes.
Photos followed, then the Rolls Royce carried them to the Tower for champagne and dinner at Le Jules Verne, returning at 11:30 to a suite prepared once more.

The Challenge
Lauren and Jared were already staying at Shangri-La, so the proposal had to stay hidden inside a hotel Lauren could return to at any hour. That meant solving four things.
Tickets worth turning back for
They were already dressed and heading toward the Eiffel Tower. Forgotten summit tickets gave Jared a believable reason to turn the car around and go inside alone. The detour cost minutes and asked nothing of Lauren.

La Suite Shangri-La outside Lauren’s plans
Lauren had checked into another room that morning. The penthouse, the vendors, and the terrace preparation had to stay separate from the part of the hotel she knew.

One rose with a destination
Jared’s note gave Lauren a single instruction. The hostess, the rose, the suite entrance, the music, and Jared’s position on the terrace had to be ready before the car turned back onto Avenue d’Iéna.

A suite prepared twice
La Suite Shangri-La had one setting before dinner and another for the couple’s return. The second could begin only after Lauren and Jared left for the Eiffel Tower, and had to be finished by 11:30 pm.
How We Planned the Evening
01 · Saint Laurent and a Rolls-Royce
The morning began with check-in, the afternoon with a private Yves Saint Laurent appointment. At 6:00 pm, the Rolls-Royce collected them for a drive through Paris on the way to the Eiffel Tower. By the time the cover began, Lauren was dressed for the evening without one request having been made of her.
02 · The forgotten tickets
At 6:15 pm, on the team’s cue, the car turned back toward Shangri-La: Jared had supposedly left the summit tickets at the hotel. He went inside alone, and a planning assistant took him up while Lauren stayed in the car.
03 · Follow the rose
At 6:30 pm, the hostess brought Lauren the note and the rose. Jared’s words told her to follow it, and the hostess led her through the hotel to La Suite Shangri-La, where candlelight and live music marked the rest of the route.
04 · The terrace before dinne
Lauren entered to violin and guitar playing the song Jared had chosen for her. The candlelit route ended on the terrace, and he proposed at 6:35 pm. Afterward, photographs were made around the suite and the hotel before the couple left for the Eiffel Tower.
05 · The return after dinner
The summit and Le Jules Verne created the working window. While Lauren and Jared were away, roses, champagne, love notes, perfume, and Jared’s Yves Saint Laurent gift were placed through the suite. The work was finished before the Rolls-Royce returned at 11:30 pm. Lauren never saw a single vendor all day.

The Result
Lauren believed they were returning for forgotten tickets. Jared’s note and the rose instead led her to live violin and guitar, red flowers, and a proposal on the terrace of La Suite Shangri-La.
After the yes, the evening moved to the summit and Le Jules Verne. They returned at 11:30 pm to champagne, roses, love notes, perfume, and gifts placed through the rooms for their first night as fiancés.
La Suite Shangri-La was dressed twice in one evening, hours apart.
Why La Suite Shangri-La?
La Suite Shangri-La occupies the top floor of Shangri-La Paris, with separate living and dining rooms, a bedroom, a dressing room, and a grand terrace facing the Eiffel Tower.
That layout mattered to Jared’s plan. The terrace carried the proposal; the rooms behind it took the second styling while the couple was at dinner; nothing had to be hidden or cleared between the two.

Questions We Hear First
HOW DOES A FOLLOW-THE-ROSE REVEAL WORK?
A hostess brings your partner a handwritten note and a single rose, then leads them to where you are waiting.
For Lauren, it began in the back seat of the Rolls-Royce and ended on the terrace of La Suite Shangri-La, with candlelight and live music carrying the route in between.
CAN A PROPOSAL STAY SECRET AT THE HOTEL WHERE YOU ARE STAYING?
Yes. Lauren and Jared checked into Shangri-La that morning, and the penthouse never appeared in her day.
The preparation stayed on the top floor, and the first she knew of La Suite Shangri-La was the rose that led there.
CAN DINNER HAPPEN SOMEWHERE ELSE AFTER A SHANGRI-LA PROPOSAL?
Yes. Lauren and Jared left for the Eiffel Tower summit and Le Jules Verne after the proposal.
The transfers and the dinner reservation were planned as one sequence, so nothing about the evening fell to Jared beyond walking onto the terrace on time.
CAN LA SUITE SHANGRI-LA BE RESTYLED DURING DINNER?
Yes. The suite’s separate rooms allow a proposal setting and a first-night setting on the same evening.
Lauren and Jared returned at 11:30 pm to champagne, roses, love notes, perfume, and gifts already in place.
WHAT DOES AN EVENING LIKE LAUREN AND JARED’S COST?
The suite is the first line of the budget; the design, the musicians, the photography and film, the transfers, and dinner follow from it.
Our full-service proposal planning fee starts at €1,200 or 15% of the budget under management, whichever is greater. Production costs are quoted separately, and you approve them before anything is confirmed. For suite categories and starting points, see our Shangri-La Paris proposal page.
