The Night
Camelia and Alex spent the early evening being photographed around Paris with her sister and her sister’s partner, a real session that gave Camelia a reason to dress up and never question the camera.
Outside Shangri-La, the photographer said goodnight and Camelia’s sister and her partner left for “friends.” Once Camelia and Alex settled at the hotel bar, the pair quietly rejoined Camelia’s parents upstairs, out of view.
Camelia expected drinks, then dinner at La Bauhinia. Minutes after they sat down, Alex excused himself.
A hostess approached with one red rose and a note from Alex, then led Camelia inside. Harp and violin played “All of Me” as candlelight marked the path through the Paris Panoramic Signature Room to its terrace, where Alex waited with red flowers and the Eiffel Tower behind him.
He knelt. She said yes. Moments later, her family stepped out with champagne.

The Challenge
Alex wanted the photoshoot to feel finished before the proposal began. Four parts had to line up.
Making the shoot feel finished
The session could not simply continue into the hotel. The photographer had to say goodnight, Camelia’s sister had to leave without creating a new question, and the plan for drinks and dinner had to make sense on its own.

Four family members out of sight
Camelia’s parents arrived separately. Her sister and her partner left in front of her, then needed a way back in that did not cross the lobby, the bar, or Camelia’s path.

A terrace Camelia had never seen
Alex had reserved the Paris Panoramic Signature Room. Camelia was staying elsewhere and had no reason to know its private Eiffel Tower terrace was part of the evening.

Dinner for six after the proposal
The terrace had to serve two purposes within an hour: proposal first, family dinner later. The change needed to happen while Camelia and Alex were away for portraits.
How We Planned the Evening
01 · The real photoshoot
Camelia, Alex, her sister, and her sister’s partner spent the early evening with a Kiss Me in Paris photographer. Because the session was real, nobody had to overplay the cover. The photographer said goodbye outside Shangri-La, and Camelia believed the shoot had ended.
02 · Drinks before dinner
The stated plan was drinks at Shangri-La before a 9:00 pm table at La Bauhinia. That put Camelia and Alex downstairs while the family, musicians, photography, film, florals, and planning team took their positions above. Once the team was ready, Alex excused himself.
03 · Separate routes for the family
Camelia’s parents arrived before the couple. Her sister and her partner walked away after the photoshoot, then entered once Camelia and Alex were seated at the bar. All four waited out of view until after the proposal.
04 · The rose and Alex’s note
Alex wrote the note himself. Once he was on the terrace, the hostess brought it to Camelia with the rose, waited while she read, then asked her to follow. The note was the first sign that the evening was not what it seemed.
05 · The terrace reset
Alex proposed at 8:15 pm. At 9:00 pm, the couple was positioned for the Eiffel Tower sparkle, then continued with portraits around the hotel. During that window, the terrace was prepared for dinner for six. They returned at 9:15 pm to a finished table.

The Result
Camelia arrived at Shangri-La expecting drinks before dinner. Minutes later, Alex’s note and the rose took her to a private terrace with live harp and violin, red flowers, and Alex waiting beneath the Eiffel Tower.
Her family joined only after she said yes. Champagne and family photographs followed, then portraits under the 9:00 pm sparkle while the terrace was set for dinner. Her father’s birthday cake, arranged without her knowing, came out just before dessert. At 11:45 pm, a limousine collected all six for a drive through Paris.
The proposal itself was private. Her family was there for the celebration that followed.
Why the Paris Panoramic Signature Room?
The Paris Panoramic Signature Room has a 43 m² private terrace facing the Eiffel Tower, previously used by Shangri-La for part of the year as the Krug Terrace.
For Alex’s plan, the terrace mattered for practical reasons as well as the view. Camelia had never seen it. Her family could wait elsewhere in the hotel without appearing on her route. And it carried the musicians and the proposal setting first, then dinner for six after the portraits.

Questions We Hear First
CAN A REAL PHOTOSHOOT HIDE A PROPOSAL IN PARIS?
Yes. A real photoshoot gives your partner a normal reason to dress well, follow a schedule, and be photographed without knowing the proposal is still ahead.
For Camelia, the session ended outside Shangri-La, so drinks at the hotel and the stated dinner plan read as the rest of the evening.
CAN FAMILY WAIT INSIDE SHANGRI-LA UNTIL AFTER THE PROPOSAL?
Yes. When the room layout and hotel routes allow it, family can arrive separately and stay out of view until after the answer.
Camelia’s parents came earlier; her sister and her partner entered once the couple was seated at the bar. All four joined only after Alex proposed.
CAN YOU USE A SHANGRI-LA TERRACE WHILE STAYING AT ANOTHER HOTEL?
Yes. Camelia and Alex were staying elsewhere in Paris, which kept the Paris Panoramic Signature Room outside Camelia’s plans until the hostess asked her to follow.
The room was reserved for the proposal and dinner, not as their stay.
CAN THE TERRACE BE RESET FOR DINNER AFTER THE PROPOSAL?
Yes. The proposal took place at 8:15 pm, and dinner for six was served on the same terrace at 9:15 pm.
The change happened while the couple was away for sparkle photographs and portraits around the hotel.
HOW MUCH DOES AN EVENING LIKE CAMELIA AND ALEX’S COST?
The total depends on the room, the floral design, the musicians, the photography and film, dinner for six, and the car at the end of the night.
Our full-service proposal planning fee starts at €1,200 or 15% of the budget under management, whichever is greater. Production costs are quoted separately, and you approve them before anything is confirmed. For room categories and starting points, see our Shangri-La Paris proposal page.
