The Brief
Erick had 16 days to plan a private blue-hour proposal with a straight-on Eiffel Tower view, live music, photography, and his partner’s best friend present as a witness.
He contacted us in late December. The plan: a private terrace with no crowds, a live violinist, a photographer, and Yvette’s best friend Roksana there to witness it. Dinner was already booked at Le Grand Salon in Hôtel Particulier Montmartre. Erick wanted blue hour for that soft, vivid winter light. To sell the surprise, he told Yvette dinner was at Girafe — making a “quick stop at Margaux’s nearby apartment” feel natural.
The Constraints
The challenge was not styling the terrace — it was getting Yvette through a private residential building and onto the rooftop without the cover story collapsing.
Residential buildings are trickier than palace hotels. At the Peninsula, you suggest “drinks at the rooftop bar” and it lands. In a residential building like Copernic, you need a reason to walk through a stranger’s lobby, take their phone-booth-sized elevator, and end up on a private terrace without raising suspicion. The Girafe dinner reservation helped, but the choreography had to be airtight.
January 15th brought sustained wind, so we secured the runner, used weighted vases, and protected candles in hurricane glass. The bigger challenge: timing the proposal to blue hour and the Tower’s five-minute sparkle window while keeping Roksana informed and Yvette completely in the dark.
What We Built
Chantelle evolved the concept with Erick over two weeks. Margaux handled production on the ground.
The setup leaned into winter — white aisle carpet, white roses and snapdragons, standing candelabras with chiffon draping, and candles that could handle the wind. The florist ran an early load-in to have everything set before arrival.
The cover: Roksana introduced Margaux as an old friend from her exchange student days and suggested stopping by for drinks and photos before dinner. Since she’s Yvette’s best friend, it felt natural. Day-of, Margaux coordinated all vendor arrivals and timing cues.
How the Evening Unfolded
We timed their arrival for blue hour, landing the proposal as the Eiffel Tower lit up and hit its five-minute sparkle window.
The violinist played Drake and Tems’ “Fountains” as Erick walked Yvette down the aisle. She said yes. Ruinart followed immediately — laughter, tears, and that first toast as an engaged couple. They stayed for portraits while Paris glowed below, then stepped outside to find a waiting Maybach for a private drive through the city before arriving at Le Grand Salon in Montmartre for dinner.
